Biography
E. M. Delafield, born in 1890, achieved wide affection for her sharp yet warm portrayal of domestic and social life, most notably through the beloved persona of the Provincial Lady; her writing combined wit with a keen observation of the responsibilities and frustrations of middle-class life.
Her communication of universal anxieties with a sympathetic voice endeared her to many readers, and after her death in 1943 she was laid to rest in Kentisbeare, leaving behind a literary legacy that continues to charm.
