Ed Vargo spent two decades as a Major League Baseball umpire, bringing calm authority and an unwavering commitment to fairness to each game he officiated, even in the heat of post-season play.

After hanging up his mask he remained devoted to the sport, helping young umpires and staying close to baseball's families, and those who knew him still speak of the steady presence he brought to the field and to Butler County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
