Biography
Edgar Cowan trained in the law and entered the United States Senate as a voice for Pennsylvania during the Civil War, serving from 1861 to 1867 as he sought to protect the Union while promoting thoughtful legislation.
After leaving the Senate, he returned to legal practice, continuing to serve his neighbors with the same level-headedness that had guided his public career, and his gravesite at Saint Clair Cemetery remains a place of reflection.
