Biography

General Edmund Rice, born in 1842, rose through the ranks of the Union Army during the Civil War, leading men with steady courage and earning the Medal of Honor for his steadfast conduct under fire.

In the decades that followed he remained devoted to military readiness and to caring for veterans, and when he passed in 1906 his comrades honored him with a resting place at Arlington National Cemetery, where his memory joins the nation he served.
