Biography
Édouard Pelay collected with both curiosity and generosity, believing that objects of beauty and historical importance belonged to the public imagination. Born in 1842, he assembled collections that brought together rare works and everyday treasures to reflect a broader story about Rouen and its people.
Through exhibitions and careful preservation, Pelay helped foster a wider appreciation of heritage before his death in 1921; his memory continues to reside at the Cimetière monumental de Rouen.
