Biography

Édouard Xavier Rigaux (1824–1898) was a French soldier whose military career spanned much of the nineteenth century. He served during a period of significant military and political change in France, from the post-Napoleonic era through the establishment of the Third Republic and the Belle Époque.

Rigaux's seventy-four years of life encompassed numerous transformations in French military organization and strategy. His burial at Père Lachaise Cemetery reflects the respect accorded to military personnel of his standing within French society during this pivotal historical period.
