Biography

Edward Dannreuther (1844-1905) trained in Germany before arriving in London, where he championed the music of Wagner and other modern composers. With passionate advocacy he organized chamber concerts and used his reviews to bring new harmonies into the public ear.

As a teacher he shaped musicians at the Royal College of Music and wrote on the aesthetics of performance, leaving behind students who felt the stirring of a progressive musical age; his remains rest in London, where his name still appears in concert programs.
