Biography

Edward J. Smejkal (1876–1933) was part of the fabric of Chicago's Czech neighborhoods, where neighbors leaned on one another through seasons of prosperity and hardship alike. His life, though not widely chronicled, would have reflected the values of diligence, loyalty, and service that defined many immigrant households at the time.
