Biography
Edward Jenner, born in 1749, was the naturalist and physician whose work with cowpox led to the first vaccination against smallpox, forever altering the course of public health and bringing honor to the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Berkeley.
He treated patients with compassion, corresponded with scientists throughout Europe, and ensured the parish enjoyed his thoughtful support until his death in 1823.
