Biography

Edward Pryce Owen, born in 1788, trained as an illustrator and specialised in capturing the lines of historic buildings and the changing faces of townscapes, leaving behind numerous drawings that preserved details of the places he visited. His work combined affectionate observation with careful draughtsmanship, making him a sought-after contributor to illustrated books and albums.

In later years he settled near Cheltenham, sharing his knowledge with younger artists and collectors, and in 1863 he passed away there, remembered for the clarity and warmth of his graphic record.
