Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby, was one of the most prominent British statesmen of the 19th century. Born in 1752, he ascended to his earldom and subsequently became a major figure in Parliament, serving as Prime Minister and holding numerous other positions of great responsibility. His political career spanned decades of significant historical change, including the Napoleonic Wars and the early Industrial Revolution.
