Biography

Edward W. Serrell was a gifted civil engineer whose work on canals and railroads earned him national recognition long before he took a commission as a Union engineer during the Civil War, supervising bridges, fortifications, and supply lines across multiple theaters.

After the war he returned to private engineering, shaping new infrastructure projects, remaining active in veterans' organizations, and offering counsel on public works, leaving a legacy of service when he died in 1906.
