Edwin J. Houston was a pioneering inventor and engineer whose curiosity about electricity fueled textbooks, laboratory experiments, and the Thomson-Houston Electric Company that helped electrify American cities. His collaborative spirit with contemporaries produced technologies that made electric lighting and power distribution more reliable and accessible.
Beyond the laboratory he championed engineering education, helping to inspire future generations through lectures and institutions that emphasized practical knowledge. He rests today at Laurel Hill Cemetery, his innovations still powering the modern world.
