Egyptian Healy, born in 1866, earned his nickname by hailing from the southern Illinois region and went on to pitch for early professional baseball clubs, thrilling fans with his lefthanded delivery and unwavering resolve. He tested his skills amid an evolving national pastime, embracing the discipline and travel of the professional circuit.

Following his playing days he returned to more private pursuits, yet his teammates and admirers never forgot his competitive fire; he now rests in Calvary Cemetery, where his contributions to the sport still spark memories among local enthusiasts after his death in 1899.
