Ehmetjan Qasim

Biography

Ehmetjan Qasim (1914–1949) was a Uyghur politician whose career reflected the complex political dynamics of Xinjiang during the mid-twentieth century. Born in the early years of the Republic, Qasim came of age during a period of significant political transformation in western China. His political activities and leadership in Yining positioned him as a significant figure in regional affairs during a time of considerable ideological and political change.

Ehmetjan Qasim's death in 1949, at the moment of the People's Republic's founding, marked the end of an era in Xinjiang's political history.
