Biography
Ekaterina Illarionovna Mikhailova-Demina (Russian: Екатерина Илларионовна Михайлова-Дёмина; 22 December 1925 – 24 June 2019) was a combat medic of the Soviet Marines during World War II. During the war, she carried hundreds of wounded men to safety, and was seriously wounded herself three times. She was denied higher awards at the end of the war due to the Soviet Union's unequal treatment of women soldiers. In May 1990, President Mikhail Gorbachev awarded her the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
