Biography

Eleanora Jones was born in 1775 and lived through a transformative period in British colonial history. She was part of the growing European community in Calcutta during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, a time when the city was establishing itself as a major center of British influence in India.

Jones died in 1810 at the age of thirty-five, and was laid to rest at South Park Street Cemetery. Her life and burial there represent the many individuals, both men and women, who formed the fabric of colonial society and left their mark on India's historical landscape.
