Biography
Eli Thayer was an educator and reformer who founded the Oread Institute to prepare young women for teaching and civic life, and he was equally determined that Kansas would be admitted as a free state, organizing settlers to resist slavery.
His fearless advocacy for learning and liberty touched many communities, and he was laid to rest at Hope Cemetery in 1899 with gratitude for his service to both classrooms and causes.
