Elias Bickermann

Biography

Elias Bickermann was a historian of the classical world who brought meticulous scholarship to the study of Josephus, Hellenistic Judaism, and the institutions of antiquity, teaching generations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He translated complex Greek sources into Hebrew and German, making the rich dialogue between peoples accessible to his students.
