Biography

Elias Martin (1739–1818) was a distinguished Swedish painter who made significant contributions to Swedish art during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. As an artist working during the transition from Rococo to Neoclassical styles, Martin helped shape the visual culture of his era through his paintings and artistic vision.

Martin's long career allowed him to witness and participate in the evolution of Swedish artistic practice and aesthetics. His legacy as a painter is commemorated in the Adolf Fredrik Church Cemetery, where he was laid to rest, reflecting his standing as one of Sweden's notable cultural figures of his generation.
