Biography

Eliyahu HaCarmeli (1891–1952) devoted himself to the political life of the Jewish community in pre-state Palestine and later to the new state, helping to articulate the needs of Haifa’s residents and of southwest Haifa’s growing neighborhoods.

He is remembered for his quiet determination to build inclusive institutions, and visitors to the cemetery compound in Southwest Haifa recall his steady commitment to public service.
