Eliza Ann Otis

Biography

Eliza Ann Otis (1833–1904) was a poet, journalist, and civic-minded leader who helped shape the cultural life of Southern California, often remembered for her work alongside her husband in the founding of the Los Angeles Times. Her literary gifts and commitment to public service brought depth and compassion to the growing city she called home.

She is interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where admirers of her poetry and her tireless advocacy for education and the arts continue to honor her thoughtful voice and generous spirit.
