Biography
Elizabeth F. Ellet devoted her literary gifts to rescuing the stories of women who served during the American Revolution, penning the monumental Women of the American Revolution and other histories that elevated forgotten voices. Her work wove biography, scholarship, and advocacy, helping to define a space for women in the nation’s cultural memory.
Though her own life met with trials, her contributions endured, inspiring future historians and resting now in the leafy grounds of Green-Wood Cemetery with the same dignity she brought to her subjects.
