Biography

Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte became an international figure through her marriage to Jerome Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon, yet she remained staunchly American in her love for family and country. Her social grace and intelligence earned her a place in the salons of Europe and Baltimore alike, where she balanced the expectations of high society with a fierce sense of independence.

After decades abroad and a return to her native city, she continued to champion the cultural life of Maryland and fostered relationships that bridged the old world and the new. Her life concludes beneath the peaceful trees of Green Mount Cemetery.
