Biography

Elkan Blout was a pioneering biochemist whose study of proteins and nutrition advanced scientific understanding of metabolic diseases and human health. A professor at Harvard Medical School, he published groundbreaking work on enzymes and amino acid metabolism that guided medical research and pharmaceutical innovation.

His scholarship earned him election to the National Academy of Sciences and national honors, and he remained a thoughtful advocate for science policy until his retirement. He was laid to rest on Cuttyhunk Island, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity and rigorous inquiry.
