Biography
Ellis Marsalis Jr. brought the rich traditions of New Orleans to life as a jazz pianist whose lyrical touch and rhythmic mastery influenced the city's sound from the 1950s onward.
Beyond performance, he mentored countless students at local universities and in educational programs, helping turn the Crescent City's schools into a proving ground for a new generation of celebrated musicians, and he took pride in watching his own sons carry forward his love of jazz.
