Biography

Ellison Capers answered the call of duty as a young man, serving as a Confederate officer before completing his theological studies and entering the ministry; his wartime service left him with a deep sense of responsibility that he carried into every sphere of his life.

He eventually became bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, guiding the church with compassion, writing widely on its mission, and helping the faithful reconcile the past with a hopeful future before his death in 1908.
