Biography

Emanuel Feuermann left a legacy as one of the most celebrated cellists of his generation, whose prodigious technique and deep musical sensibility made him a sought-after soloist and chamber musician in Europe and America. Born in 1902, he studied under some of the great pedagogues of the day and quickly garnered acclaim for his radiant tone and immaculate phrasing.

Feuermann’s artistry brought new attention to the cello repertoire, and he inspired both audiences and fellow performers with his devotion to the instrument. Though his life was cut short in 1942, his recordings and the memories of those who heard him live continue to bear witness to his luminous presence in music.
