Biography

Erastus Milo Cravath (1833–1900) helped found Fisk University and devoted himself to educating the newly freed, keeping faith with the promise of equality by insisting that learning would be the pathway to dignity.

Laid to rest at Nashville National Cemetery, his legacy of teaching and organizing lives on in the halls of scholarship and the lives of countless students.
