Erastus Newton Bates

Erastus Newton Bates served as a Union officer during the Civil War and later represented Illinois as a legislator, dedicating himself to public service after the conflict.

He returned to his legal practice and remained involved in civic affairs until his death, leaving behind a legacy of leadership in both war and peace now honored at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
