Biography
Ernest Childers, a proud member of the Muscogee Nation born in 1918, enlisted in the U.S. Army and quickly became known for his calm courage and exceptional leadership during World War II. Amid fierce fighting in Italy, he repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to rescue wounded comrades, a selfless conduct that earned him the Medal of Honor and the enduring admiration of his fellow soldiers.
After the war he continued to serve the nation as a dedicated officer and advocate for veterans, mentoring young people and striving to ensure that future generations remembered the cost of freedom.
