Biography
Ernest Joseph Cagnolatti kept the trumpet light and lyrical through decades of New Orleans jazz, earning his place among the city's treasured musicians by blending warm tone with disciplined phrasing. He performed with numerous dance bands, recording sessions, and parades, carrying the city's brassy sparkle from intimate clubs to festival stages.
Cagnolatti also shared his craft with younger players, offering guidance and encouragement in rehearsal halls and on the street corners that inspired him, and his spirit remains part of the rhythm of Saint Louis Cemetery No. 2 where he is remembered.
