Biography

Ernest Lister, a Tacoma resident and governor of Washington from 1913 until his passing in 1919, nurtured the state’s progressive spirit by championing public utility regulation, labor protections, and responsible infrastructure investment.

His early career as a successful industrialist and public servant shaped a compassionate approach to leadership, and even as illness forced his retirement he remained steadfastly committed to the people of Washington.
