Biography
Erwin Finlay-Freundlich was an astronomer who championed empirical tests of Einstein’s general relativity, leading expeditions to observe solar eclipses and seeking to confirm the theory’s predictions about gravity and light. He later sustained a distinguished career in astronomy despite being forced to leave Germany, always conveying the wonder of the cosmos to students and colleagues.
He is commemorated at Garnethill Hebrew Burial Ground, where the serenity of the site is a quiet tribute to a lifetime spent studying the heavens.
