Biography

Esma Sultan was a prominent member of the Ottoman imperial family, living during the reign of her brother Mahmud II, one of the most reformist sultans of the Ottoman Empire. As an aristocrat of the highest rank, she occupied an influential position within the palace and imperial circles during a period of significant modernization.

Her life encompassed the cultural and political transformations of early 19th-century Ottoman society. She was interred in the Mausoleum of Mahmud II, a monumental structure that reflects the dignity and prominence of the imperial family to which she belonged.
