Biography
Eugene Esmonde (1909–1942) rose through the ranks of the Fleet Air Arm with a blend of technical mastery and keen responsibility, leading torpedo squadrons in the face of relentless enemy fire during the darkest days of the Second World War.
His courage has become a byword for selfless leadership, and family and comrades still visit Woodlands Cemetery to honour the young pilot who gave his life so others might live.
