Eugène Eyraud

1820–1868 (age 48)

Biography

Eugène Eyraud was a French missionary who dedicated his life to religious and humanitarian work in the Pacific, bringing Christian faith and education to remote island communities. Born in 1820, he undertook the challenging mission of establishing religious presence and providing spiritual guidance in isolated regions far from his homeland.

Eyraud's missionary work represented the broader 19th-century efforts to spread Christianity and Western education throughout the Pacific. Though his life was cut short in 1868, his legacy endures through the communities he served and the spiritual and educational foundations he helped establish in the islands where he devoted himself to missionary work.
