Biography

Fanny Bullock Workman, born in 1859, was a pioneering mountaineer whose ambitious expeditions in the Himalayas shattered expectations for women on the world’s highest peaks. Her scientific observations, detailed maps, and courageous ascents broadened the understanding of high-altitude exploration.

In addition to her daring climbs she authored travelogues that called for broader opportunities for women, and her spirited life is commemorated at Rural Cemetery.
