Biography
Fanny Elssler rose from a Viennese training to international stardom, her luminous technique and expressive character dances making her a favorite at the Paris Opera and on stages across Europe, where audiences admired the subtle blend of grace and strength she brought to every role.
In later years she cherished a quieter life in Austria, remaining a beloved figure and patron of the arts whose example inspired younger dancers; she was laid to rest at Hietzing Cemetery in 1884, leaving behind the legacy of performance as a lasting contribution to the city she called home.
