Biography

Ferenc Kiss (1860–1952) dedicated his life to the stewardship of Hungary’s forests, guiding policy and practice during a time when woodland conservation became increasingly vital. As a forestry engineer he balanced practical needs with an appreciation for ecological harmony, insisting that natural resources be managed responsibly for future generations.

Kiss’s quiet leadership inspired colleagues and apprentices, especially in rural areas where his knowledge supported both economic resilience and reverence for the land. He rests in the Central graveyard in Szeged, a fitting place of repose for a man whose work sought to keep Hungary’s forests standing tall.
