Biography
Fisher Ames (1758-1808) was a gifted Federalist congressman and orator whose eloquent speeches articulated the values of the Constitution and warned against the dangers of factionalism in the early republic.
He earned respect for his careful reasoning and for the kindness with which he carried himself, and his grave at Old Village Cemetery preserves the memory of an engaged and compassionate public servant.
