Florence Golson Bateman

Biography

Florence Golson Bateman, born in 1891, devoted herself to education and civic life in Wetumpka, Alabama, inspiring generations of children with patience, storytelling, and a love of learning that extended beyond the classroom. She believed that a strong community began with curiosity, and she taught her pupils to ask questions while she modeled compassion.

Florence was also involved in the local church, helped preserve historical traditions, and welcomed visitors with grace; her final rest is at Wetumpka City Cemetery, where friends still recall her soft laugh.
