Biography

Frances Little, the pen name of Frances E. Little, wrote the bestselling novel The Lady of the Decoration, a collection of letters she penned while teaching in Japan after the Russo-Japanese War. Her warm humor and candid observations gave American readers an affectionate and eye-opening portrait of Japanese society and helped foster cross-cultural goodwill.

Back in Louisville, she remained an advocate for international understanding and continued to publish novels and short stories that reflected her humanitarian spirit, while supporting local literary clubs and charitable causes until her death in 1941.
