Biography

Francesco Hayez was an Italian artist of considerable talent who worked during a transformative period in European art. Though recorded as a photographer, his artistic practice reflected the evolving technologies and aesthetic concerns of the nineteenth century as artists adapted to new mediums and possibilities.

Hayez's work contributed to the visual culture of his era, and his engagement with photographic practice marked an important moment in the history of Italian art. He was laid to rest in the monumental cemetery of Milan, one of Italy's most prestigious burial grounds.
