Biography
Francis Cornelius Webb (1826–1873) combined his training as a physician with a deep commitment to the written word, taking the editorial helm of leading medical periodicals and insisting on clear, accurate reportage of cases and new discoveries. He used his positions to champion hospital reform and the dissemination of practical knowledge to young physicians, reminding them that medicine must serve all classes of society.
Webb’s own articles and reviews were valued for their lucidity, and he became a trusted voice among London’s medical community before his untimely death, leaving colleagues who remembered him not only for technical expertise but for the kindness with which he guided younger practitioners; he is buried in Highgate Cemetery.
