Francisco Solano López, born in 1826, served as President of Paraguay and sought to protect his nation's sovereignty in a period marked by regional tension and internal challenges.

He fell in 1870 at the Battle of Cerro Corá, leaving behind a complex legacy that continues to be studied and commemorated at the very grounds where he made his last stand.
