Biography
Frank Orren Lowden studied law before entering the political stage, eventually becoming governor of Illinois in 1917 and guiding the state through the trials of World War I with a calm, reform-minded approach.
He reorganized the state’s administration, championed fiscal responsibility, and carried those principles into his national campaigns, leaving behind a legacy of thoughtful governance when he died in 1943 and was laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery.
