Frants Henningsen

1850–1908 (age 58)

Biography

Frants Henningsen rose through the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts to become a sensitive chronicler of urban life, granting dignity to labourers and families through his brush. His realist works combined sharp observation with a tender humanity, reflecting the quiet struggles of his time.

He also advised younger painters and supported exhibitions that brought art closer to everyday citizens. Visitors to Vestre Cemetery may pause where he rests to remember the compassion in his canvases.
