Biography

Frédéric Moreau (1798–1898) was a French archaeologist whose century-long life spanned from the Napoleonic era through the Belle Époque. His career coincided with the development of archaeology as a rigorous scientific discipline, and he contributed to the growing understanding of France's historical heritage during a period of increased scholarly interest in antiquity.

Moreau's remarkable longevity allowed him to witness the transformation of archaeological methods and the evolution of historical scholarship throughout the nineteenth century. His final resting place at Père Lachaise Cemetery attests to his standing within French intellectual and academic circles.
