Biography

Frederick Ponsonby, 3rd Earl of Bessborough, combined refinement with efficiency as a peer, serving in government, in diplomatic posts, and for a time as Postmaster General, where he sought better communication for the realm.

From his home at Hatherop he continued to foster the arts, agriculture, and benevolent societies, making his estate a center of hospitality and steady support for the surrounding district.
